SAS21 SCULP

I downloaded this magical piece of kit only a week ago and i'm totally hooked!!!!If, like me, your tiring of loop based packages and have a love for the 'random' then this is for you.

It enables you to manipulate footage, live input, text, and even 3D OBJECTS - all in a 3d environment.

Once you've input your material and mapped your textures onto the choosen elements you can generate infinite transformations which are NEVER loop based.

You can control the mapping of textures onto 3d objects (or 2D if required by simply using a 'plane' or 'background' object).

SMODE STUDIO review

A few months ago while surfing through my veejay webpages my eye came across this new piece of software. I neglect my uprising heartbeat at first but when I found myself again I new why this happened. This was a new way of creating veejay content!! A post production software tool that was able to compose 3D worlds without a steep learning curve.
I downloaded the demo and dived into the world called SMODE.

Pilgrim

Circa '97 me and the guys used to chat about our ideal setup for playing video out in a club to accompany the DJ. We'd have video sequences and realtime animations which reacted to the music, we'd have a bunch of computers and someone "flying" it, it would be amazing.
Considering that the fastest machine available at the time was a Pentium 200mmx and nobody except SGI had thought to put the words "3d" and "hardware" in the same sentence our options were limited to say the least. The concept of VJing was itself unheard of, the closest thing we'd heard of

Pixelshox Studio 0.92 Review

EDITORS NOTE: THIS SOFTWARE HAS CEASED DEVELOPMENT, BUT IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD

Pixelshox was looking very promising as a modular VJ authoring app in the style of MAX/Nato and Visual Jockey. It was developed from the ground up using MacOS X native technology and optimised for hardware OpenGL performance. Even on a "lowend" 550 Mhz G4 Powerbook you can drop 5 or 6 effects on top of two 320x340 quicktimes + have some 3d geometry or text going. It's also very stable except for some problems with live camera input and javascript plugins.

Rhythmic Circle 20 (Carbon)

Not to be confused with the video mixer RC FUSE, this simple (and FREE) audiovisualizer creates colored spots that dance, spin, and form patterns to an external music source. The audio-reactive patterns are the same audio effects from FUSE plus a few new patterns (yippee) that can be triggered to change after a set interval (5 sec, 10 sec, etc.) or to the beat, or can be selected by mouse click from its small interface window. It's not complex and there aren't too many options, but it has a cute pop-art appeal that works well with most music styles.

Derivitive Touch Player Review

"Play synths which are realtime 2D and 3D animations with the benefit of 3D lighting, multi-layer textures, transparency, fog. Touch plays movies and image loops on rectangles and 3D surfaces." Quote from the web site.
well its all true, and the visuals that it plays are ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. But even on my duron1.2/512mb & geforce2mx/64mb machine with win2k the most synths are quite sticky and it freezes a lot and crashes more than the law allows :) BUT using the tips on the end of this page i got it 2x faster !!!

here some plus and minus sides of it:

Moppi Demopaja

"Moppi Demopaja is a demo authoring tool. It has a interface similar to the popular 2D animation tools such as Macromedia Flash and Adobe After Effects (I hope they don't have any patents on their User interfaces). Many of the user interface functionality is imitated from After Effects." Quote from the website
Demopaja is very good for making (not only demos, but also) footage, or you could use it also in realtime (worx fullscreen 2) but it doesnt have any realtime controllers for the user... but it has a free SDK for c++... so maybe...

Features:
- Play Flash files
- Play Images

VirtualDub

Virtualdub is a freeware and a good solution for those who can't afford high-end video editing softwares. While it isn't a NLE (non-linear editing) software like Premiere, you can still use it to merge video samples and, most importantly, to cut videos, convert them and apply various effects to them, which is a regular task for many VJs.
